Art & Craft Groups
Art Appreciation 1: Art Appreciation is not Art History. Every month we agree on a subject which each member interprets as they see fit - through books, artefacts, the internet - anything goes. No experts, just interest. Occasional exhibition visits. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (pm).
Contact: Barbara Wright (01244-349760)
Art Appreciation 2: This group doesn't try for history lessons but we do want to discuss art and artists and try to see how paintings fit into their historical context. We want to alternate monthly between a gallery visit and a discussion at the home of a group member. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (am).

Collecting: This group meets on the 2nd Monday of the month (pm). It is for people who are interested in collectables and antiques. Some members have collections, which they show to the group, and we also have themes, which we encourage members to research and to bring items to the meeting. Our subjects have included cameras, postcards, roman artefacts, Staffordshire figures, modern pottery, hatpins, spoons and stamps. Occasionally we visit local museums to look at their collections. The group would welcome new members and also visits from U3A members who have collections they would like to show us.

Crafts: We enjoy a variety of craft techniques. We use paper, card, fabric and many other items. Many techniques are demonstrated. Whilst at the meeting, members work on the craft of their choice. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month (am).

Film Appreciation 1 and 2: We meet every second Monday afternoon at 2:00pm in pleasant surroundings with comfortable seating. The films screened are wide ranging and reflect the interests of the group. They are usually followed by a discussion. Film 1 and 2 are separate groups that meet separately.

Needlecraft 1: Two informal friendly groups meet in Chester every 2nd and 4th Tuesday 10:00 am to 12 noon. We pursue "our own thing", be it tapestry with wool or finer work (either cross stitch or embroider), to stitch and talk and discuss the whys and wherefores with a pause for coffee.
Contact: Joyce Carhart (01244-380923)
Needlecraft 2: We are an off shoot of the original tapestry group and as such are still open to members who wish to join us. Two of our ladies are doing tapestry but it is not the only needlework. Some are doing cross stitch and at present one is lace knitting, so anything goes. As well as doing needlework we put the world to rights over coffee.

Painting: We are a small group of mainly watercolour painters of varying standards. Artist Phillip Dilger is always in attendance to help. We meet in a small, warm, well-lit room at Hoole Community Centre on Tuesdays, 1:30 to 3:30 pm from September to April.
